Second
Day of Lent
Read: Joel
2:1-2, 12-17 http://bible.oremus.org/?ql=291361051
Early
in Lent each year, we share this wonderfully difficult lesson from Joel. It
begins by acknowledging the coming judgment of God, “Let all the people of the
land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming." But then as we continue with
verses 12-17 it invites us to “return to the Lord with all our hearts.” Could
there be a more perfect guide for Lent?
What
are you doing for Lent this year? Are you taking on something or giving up
something or some combination thereof? What
practice or discipline might help you “return to the Lord” during this season
of reflection and confession.
I
invite you to share your Lenten Disciplines on our blog. It’s a wonderful way both
to share ideas that might be helpful to others and to help hold yourself
accountable by sharing publicly what you hope to do over these next six weeks. Don't be afraid to ask if you need suggestions!
Have
you thought of combining some of the ideas we shared over the past several
weeks with our Sabbath-24/6 focus with your Lenten Disciplines? I’ll post some
of the “Sabbath Starters” along with today’s devotion.
I
prayerfully invite to look deep within this Lenten Season. We invite God to
change us from the inside out!
Lenten Blessings!
Rich
